The Best Time to Start Your Holiday Home Projects Is Now
Every year, sometime around November, I hear the same thing:
“I wish we had started this sooner.”
The holidays have a way of making us look at our homes a little differently. Suddenly, we're thinking about the guest room that never got finished, the dining room we've been meaning to paint, the lighting that has never quite worked, or the furniture we've been waiting to replace.
And then we decide it all needs to happen before Thanksgiving.
That is a lot of pressure to put on a few short weeks.
Summer is actually one of the best times to start thinking about the projects you want finished before the holidays. Not necessarily because you need to spend your summer living through a renovation, but because you can start the process now.
And so much of the design process is simply that, a process.
Custom furniture takes time. Wallpaper takes time. Tile, lighting, window treatments, and upholstery all have lead times. Even the simplest projects often involve more decisions and more waiting than we anticipate.
Starting in the summer gives you room to make those decisions thoughtfully instead of making them quickly because family is arriving in six weeks.
It also gives you time to live with your choices.
You can watch how a paint color changes throughout the day. You can think about how a room functions when your family is actually using it. You can notice what is missing, what isn't working, and what would make your home feel better.
That is one of my favorite things about summer. We spend more time at home, and our homes tell us what it needs.
Maybe it's the outdoor space you've been putting off. Maybe it's a room that needs a fresh coat of paint. Maybe it's finally choosing the dining room chairs you've been looking at for two years.
Whatever the project, the goal isn't necessarily to have everything finished tomorrow.
The goal is to start.
I'm in the middle of a renovation at my own house right now, and I am reminded constantly that the best things take time. There are decisions to make, things to order, and, inevitably, a little waiting.
But the waiting is worth it.
Because when the holidays arrive, the goal isn't to be frantically checking on furniture deliveries or wondering if the wallpaper will arrive in time for Thanksgiving. The goal is to be sitting around the table with your family and friends, enjoying your home.
So, if you have a project you've been putting off, this might be your sign to start now.
You don't have to finish everything this summer. You just need to give yourself enough time to do it right.
That's where our Design Services come in. We can help you create a plan, make decisions, and move the process forward, so when the holidays arrive, you can enjoy your home instead of worrying about everything that's still left to do.
Start now.
